Highlander Code Camp

about

Seventy Five North and AIM Institute are partnering to work on the growing tech gap among women, people of color and lower-income individuals through the Highlander Tech Talent Initiative. Highlander Code Camp is a 7-week web development program for fifteen high school students living in or attending school in North Omaha.  The camp focuses on website creation, project management, job readiness and fun summer activities.

Outside of in-class learning, Highlander Code Camp participants will meet with business leaders at startups and larger organizations, attend a weekly yoga class, receive an attendance stipend, and take field trips to summer activities. We hope to inspire and motivate students to pursue opportunities in tech while learning about the possibilities of Omaha.

Typical Day / week

Each day begins at 9:00 AM with free breakfast. After breakfast, students will receive web development instruction until 12:00 PM - a break for lunch. After lunch, the afternoon ranges between additional instruction, yoga classes, field trips, and other activities.

What do students receive for participating?

  • Each student will receive dedication from instructors and mentors

  • A laptop is provided

  • Two means everyday: breakfast and lunch

  • A monthly bus pass, if needed

  • Weekly stipend based on attendance

Our expectations

Each student must commit to attending class everyday and treat each instructor, mentor and classmate with respect. We ask for participation and the courage to ask for help when needed.

We understand learning how to build websites is difficult. Students will receive help when feeling frustrated and additional tutoring can be provided. We just ask for curiosity, the will to learn something new and to ask for help when needed.
